A little about My Journey...

In a time where music seems demystified and highly commercialised, The Musical Being maintains the rigour, core, and beauty of old-school music and effortlessly creates a blend with the essence of contemporary styles.

The Musical Being is positioned as a neo-soul artist, but his enthralling baritone, sultry tenor sound, and velvety falsetto make his vocal texture a rich mix for musical versatility. In addition, his dynamic voice and liberal musical perception see him thrive in every genre of popular music he chooses to explore, from Gospel to Soul, to Hip-hop, to Country, to Afrobeat, to Rnb and even Jazz and folklore.

Having been exposed to music from a very young age by his folks and extended family, Damilola Makinde, also known as The Musical Being, started singing as a teenager in an adult choir.

His budding potential was well recognised and acknowledged by those in the choir, who ensured his acceptance into the choral group, and immensely contributed to his musical development. His passion for music, investment in understanding the art, and ability to emotively blend into the message of any song he sings make his musicianship one of utmost pulchritude.

Before releasing his debut single – “Let’s Do This Forever“, in early 2022, The Musical Being’s ingenuity when he performs other people’s songs has earned him a fair share of the music-loving community. As a result, the Nigerian-born singer has plied his music trade on different platforms across different states in Nigeria.

Among a host of events, TMB has performed at the Music Students Association of Nigeria (MUSAN) Concert, 2018. He has also been on stage at the Festival Poetry Calabar for three years out of its five annual editions. Furthermore, he was a guest performer at the Armory of Words (AOW) 2018 at the University of Ibadan.

The literary scene has especially formed a bond with him, as the prestigious Words Rhymes and Rhythm (WRR) festival has had him on board for special music renditions for three consecutive years of its editions. Also, the respected Poets in Nigeria (PIN) has had him perform at its Nigeran Students Poetry Prize (NSPP) awards ceremonies for three years of four editions. Additionally, the seasoned singer has also performed on the same stage as musical gurus like Eda Oto and Beautiful Nubia in different years; the former at the University of Ibadan Cultural Night, 2015, and the latter at the University of Ibadan Cultural Night, 2016. So much, to mention a few.

Over the years, he’s won some Music competitions and come top in others. Those he’s won include the Tecno Nigerian Idol Home Edition (First Edition), the Lush Hair Nigerian Idol competition (First Edition), and so on. Also, he was top 5 in the Access the Stars virtual auditions 2020.

His most recent musical body of work is an Extended Play (EP) titled Táǹwá. The Táǹwá EP is a musical experience that can be dubbed as a confluence of emotions and truth. It is a musical project comprising messages of Thrill, Passion, Affection, Melancholy, Healing, and Soul, sung from a voice forged from the belly of God. The title of the project – Táńwá which means “The Sought After”, is inspired by a number of things. For TMB as the brain behind this creative work of art, he’ll be quoted saying “This project is one I’ve long sought to bring to life, wanting to get my sound and message in solid multiple forms out there, and here it is. So for me it’s another level of fulfilment finding what I’ve been seeking for a long time.”

He is a fantastic songwriter and has written songs for artists like Jola Bello and more that may not be mentioned due to anonymous deals.

The Musical Being also owns the initiative known as Courtesy Calls; with this initiative, The Musical Being places phone calls to people’s loved ones and serenades them while expressing how much they mean to those who booked them for the call. The reception of the initiative has been evident in its patronage, with over 500 calls placed since its inception in late 2019.

Away from music, Damilola Makinde is a B.A holder in Communication and Language Arts, bagged from Nigeria’s Premier University, University of Ibadan.

He’s a sucker for love and finds so much joy in serenading couples at weddings. Stream his latest music and learn more about him here – https://linktr.ee/TheMusicalBeing.
